The Particular Joy
of Hand-Dyed Yarn

Choosing colours, trying patterns, and making something by hand are part of the pleasure of knitting and crochet.

A knitting or crochet project can begin with a pattern or with a colour. Fibre artists choose yarn for its shade, texture, and how it will look in the finished piece.

With hand-dyed yarn, colours can shift along the strand. The pattern and stitch affect how those colours appear in the fabric. Knitters and crocheters can try a swatch to see the result before starting a larger project.

Wild Woollys makes hand-dyed yarn in colourways including Autumn Mocha, Woodland Christmas, and Obsidian Nights. The collection includes tonal and variegated yarns, along with coordinated sock sets.

For many fibre artists, making the piece is as enjoyable as using it. A sweater, shawl, or pair of socks is a chance to work with favourite colours and make something to wear or give to someone else. Explore the collection →

VANCOUVER. Baaad Anna’s welcomed Wild Woollys to its East Hastings shop on September 11, introducing the Victoria dyers with an interview about colour, yarn, and how the company began.

Alyse Jackson described developing colourways through experiments in the studio, and the pleasure of seeing a familiar skein become someone else’s sweater or shawl. The shop’s introduction features Wild Woollys in fingering, worsted, and bulky weights, available in store and online.
